The contents of this blog are purely theoretical. There could a million explanations for beautiful artwork. This blog just tells you one of those million interpretations.

Origination
The idea of black tears for the video When the party’s over came from a fan artwork to Billie. She saw the artwork and got inspired for how her video should look, visually. Most of Billie’s video have always been on somewhat darker side this video is no different.

Interpretation
The video starts with Billie sitting in a chair wearing all white and some chains giving off a hip hop vibe. She has a glass of black mysterious substance in front of her. Now given the lyrics of the song the substance could be her feel or all the bad shit that happens to her.

When the video starts she speaks about some hurtful things that have happened to her but here’s the thing she is not lip syncing to it. Which means that all those feelings are in the glass. Then she says “I could lie and say I like it like that” while looking at the glass, here she is actually talking to her feelings.

After she chugs down the glass the lyrics says “Don’t you know too much already” this could mean that now she knows everything that she chugged down. A few minutes later she starts crying with black tears on the lyrics “Quiet when I am coming home”. The dripping of tears symbolising that she couldn’t hold on to her feelings to all the things that she knows now. She could lie about how she feels but nothing will make it better.

She wipes her tears and says “Lets just let it go”, symbolically speaking she wants to move on. But her black tears starts rolling down the floor she can’t contain it anymore. The song ends with her saying “I could lie say I like it like that” which means everything is such a mess she might just lie.
Did you know?
Billie Eilish’s songs are always presented in such a way that fans can actually feel whatever she’s feeling in the video. A lot of fans made comments like “I could actually feel her pain” for ‘When the Party’s over’ video.
Billie Eilish was 16 year old when she shot this video. At the time she wasn’t opposed to the idea of fame however if you talk to her now she is tired of being famous. She has explicitly said so in all her interviews. Don’t worry she won’t stop creating music. Just don’t go all fanboy over Billie when you see her 💁.
