History of Van Gogh and his painting.
Vincent Van Gogh was a famous Dutch artist who was not appreciated in his own time. It wasn’t just people around him who thought he was insane. Even the critics at that time thought the heavy brush strokes and bright colours, also somewhat sloppiness of his paintings indicated that the artist had issues.
Some of us know him as the creator of this painting(Starry Night) and few of us know him as the artist who cut his ear off. Starry Night was painted in 1889 from Arles mental asylum where Van Gogh spent last of his years. The painting is now famously known for habituating Expressionism which was not understood by a lot of people back then. It was a painting of Van Gogh’s view from the asylum with the meadows and stars, village being imaginary.
Interpretation
The most accepted interpretation of this painting is the biblical one. Which says that the 11 stars in painting is directly related to the bible verse of Genesis 37:9. In this verse Joseph indicated that he was an outcast and a dreamer out of all his 11 brothers, that one day the table would turn and he too will be noticed. There is no way of knowing what Van Gogh originally intended of the painting he could have intended Starry Night as a personal statement to his own poor reception as an artist. Although Van Gogh died as an ungracious artist, him and his work did truly receive recognition later on.
Maybe we all sometimes feel like Van Gogh, as our creations go unrecognised. The crazy strokes symbolising where our heads are at.In the end of course we can not ignore the most obvious fact about the painting that the aspects of this painting are trippy at every level
Very insightful! 🤙🏻🤘🏻✌🏻
